Tucked in the quiet foothills of central Virginia, Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville is a multi-faith spiritual haven devoted to practices of Yoga, meditation, and personal growth. Fully immerse yourself in the yogic lifestyle as you participate in a structured daily schedule of classes and sadhana (Yoga practice). Enjoy delicious vegetarian meals, live amongst a monastic community, and experience the sanctity of the three on-site shrines. As part of your Yoga practice, you will meditate daily in one of our three meditation halls, including the Light of Truth Universal Shrine (LOTUS). A system of classical Yoga as taught by Swami Satchidananda, Integral Yoga traces its roots to the rich tradition of India’s ancient teachings and practices. Integral Yoga is a unique style of Yoga in that it synthesizes the various branches of classical Yoga.
The branches of Yoga include:
- Raja Yoga- the science of the mind and yogic lifestyle
- Hatha Yoga- the physical practice of Yoga, including Yoga postures
- Jnana Yoga- the science of self-study
- Bhakti Yoga- the path of devotion, including chanting (kirtan), worship (puja), and self-surrender
- Karma Yoga- the practice of selfless service (seva)
Through the Integral Yoga teacher training program, you will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of the Yoga tradition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long are typical days?
A: Typical days begin with meditation at 6:00 am and run until 9:00 or 9:15 pm. Wednesday and Friday evenings are free, as is all day Sunday.
Q: Can I stay off-site?
A: We strongly encourage trainees to stay on-site, either in the dorms, guesthouses, or tent sites. The immersive nature of the training is unique and powerful. To leave the main grounds, even for a few hours a night, can take away from one of the central aspects of the training. Staying on-site can also create a cohesive feeling among the participants.
Q: Is coffee available?
A: Coffee is available for purchase at the Mandala Cafe, but it is not available in the main dining area in Sivananda Hall.
Q: Can I still contact my family and friends?
A: During your training, you will be spending most of your time and energy focusing within, but yes, you can contact family and friends via Wifi or Verizon cell service. We simply ask you to be mindful of others and refrain from talking on the phone in common public spaces.
Q: How much free time will I have?
A: Free time during training can be limited. Wednesday and Friday evenings are free, as is all day Sunday. There is also usually an hour of free time after lunch, though this varies.
Q: What are my options if my schedule won’t allow for me to take four weeks off for the training?
A: There is an option to split the 200-hour training into two two-week segments if your circumstances don’t allow you to take the entire four-week training.
