Anandi Deborah Absler, Ph.D., MSW

IY Teacher, Ph.D., Research & Evaluation Consultant

Anandi’s involvement with Integral Yoga commenced in 2000. Since that time, she has participated in courses and programs within Australia and the USA and has been an active member of the organizing committees of the Victorian Integral Yoga Association (VIYA) and Integral Yoga Centre Melbourne (IYCM). It has been her wonderful honor to contribute to building a robust sangha.

As an Integral Yoga teacher, her focus has been to offer gentle community classes under IYCM’s Yoga for Every Body umbrella. She is dedicated to providing a culture of inclusion to students of all ages, body shapes, abilities, and circumstances. The teachings of Integral Yoga have shown her that the practices shared in class as well as the underlying philosophy are particularly suited to engaging a broad continuum of people and have application throughout many parts of our everyday lives. She is continually excited to see the links between Integral Yoga with her other ‘day job’ as a social work researcher and evaluation consultant.

In the past few years, she has expanded this adaptation to another core area of her life—her Judaism. Through her strong involvement in her synagogue as a Board member of a lay-led progressive congregation, she has had the opportunity, with a colleague, to initiate an online Gentle Jewish Yoga class. It has its origin in the periods of long Melbourne lockdowns, which informed the need to provide an inclusive class promoting well-being and connection. The class weaves Jewish concepts and beliefs as well as inspirational readings reflecting the annual cycle of festivities from both philosophies into a Jewish-informed understanding within an Integral Yoga class structure. It has been a very special journey.
